Kavi Wagholikar, MD, PhD – Informing Clinical and Public Health Response to COVID pandemic using electronic health data in India: To develop a reliable big picture of what is happening to COVID patients in India and beyond this talk will discuss plans to develop a Heath data platform using i2b2 that engages local experts in informatics, statistics and clinical medicine at more than 350 hospitals across 9 countries on 4 continents to iteratively improve sites’ data quality, understand the limitations of EHR data, and conduct rapid analyses through a federated model.

Becky Steck, University of Michigan and Louise Klann – i2B2 tranSMART and Chronic Kidney Disease in Africa: Empowering global research networks to advance healthcare for underserved populations : The i2B2 tranSMART platform has undergirded the H3 Africa consortium’s significant strides in alleviating the burden of disease in Africa. Their work has advanced care for Chronic Kidney Disease, a debilitating disease that is the tenth leading cause of death worldwide, but has not had a major advancement in care since the 1970s.

Over 1 billion patient records are managed using IRIS technology already. With IRIS, i2b2 community members can leverage advanced capabilities such as interoperability, scalability, and machine learning to support next generation clinical research.
