The Foundation will hold two Hackathon sessions in person at the tranSMART Foundation Annual Meeting.  We will also provide online access to include participants who are unable to attend the annual meeting!  Details on the remote access to follow.

After conferring with the Code Committee and vetting to the larger development forum,  the tranSMART Foundation proposes the following Hackathon problems to be tackled during the upcoming annual meeting.

  1. Implement specific Advanced Workflows using Galaxy via the new v1.2 Restful API.The robust Restful API that has been developed for v1.2 is a game changer for tranSMART analytics. The Hackathon participants will be given an introduction to this API (everyone is welcome to learn about this important new feature), select an Advanced Workflow(s) to model with Galaxy and implement the complete Galaxy workflow comparing the results to the original. There is substantial expertise in the use of the R-API, particularly at The Hyve. This hackathon should be well-suited to the time limit and we trust will be of high interest to many in the tranSMART development community.
  1. Activate Sample Explorer in Version v1.2. The Sample Explorer is a “sleeper” tranSMART tool that has been enhanced and utilized to great advantage by the Avillach Lab at Harvard. There are other parties (e.g. eTRIKS) that are becoming interested in using this capability for cataloguing biospecimen. An alternative topic for those with a need for/interest in the Sample Explorer, it is expected that substantial progress can be made in the hackathon setting with a complete the integration possible.

More information to follow but we are looking forward to a fun and productive Hackathon!
